About Us

Sherri Roberts, Owner of SLIS, LLC

Sign Language Interpreting Services, LLC ("SLIS") is owned and operated by Sherri Roberts. Sherri has been interpreting in the Bryan/College Station area of Central Texas for over 30 years.

Sherri Roberts is both state and nationally certified as an ASL/English interpreter and transliterator for sign language users, with specialty certifications in Medical and Court interpreting.

She also holds the CCHI CORE credential from the national Certification Commission on Healthcare Interpreting. Sherri also earned her master’s degree from Texas A&M University in Educational Psychology.

Some Background

After working with people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing for many years, Sherri could not keep up with all the interpreting requests on her own. After much encouragement from the Deaf Community, Sherri started hiring coworkers that she knew to be qualified to work with her.

SLIS has grown because of our dedication to excellence in our customer service. (Read sample customer testimonials). SLIS now employs 3 full time staff interpreters and contracts with another 30-40 interpreters and CART/TypeWell providers as needed. With the growing population of students who are Deaf at both Blinn College and Texas A&M, and the growing population of people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Brazos Valley, SLIS stays busy locally! But not too busy to give our clients and customers the service they need.

Remote Interpreting

Remote ASL interpreting services

With the advances in technology, SLIS began offering remote services to those needing communication access outside of the Brazos Valley. Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) is available to anyone with a computer or table and a strong internet connection anywhere in the United States. If speech-to-text services such as Closed Captioning or CART services are needed, we can provide transcription services remotely on a variety of platforms.

SLIS Today

SLIS now employs several interpreters and contracts with another 40-50 services providers, as needed. With an increasing number of Deaf students participating in post-secondary settings, we have expanded our services allowing us to work nationwide! We stay busy, but not too busy to provide our clients with the quality services they need.

Allowing Communication to Happen” is our motto. That only occurs when a qualified interpreter is available to assist with communication needs.
